Salesforce CPQ automation helped a renewable energy provider connect quoting, process automation, mobile field workflows, document generation, and external file storage within one Salesforce-based architecture.
Peeklogic implemented a customized solution that connected CPQ with field data collection, SharePoint document storage, automated PDF generation, and Salesforce Mobile App functionality.
Project Overview
Industry
Renewable Energy
Client
Solar Energy Provider
Project Type
Salesforce CPQ implementation, automation, and mobile workflow development
Technologies Used
Salesforce CPQ, Apex, Salesforce Flow, Lightning Web Components (LWC), Visualforce, Salesforce Mobile App, Salesforce Field Service, SharePoint API, PDF.co
Key Result
An end-to-end Salesforce solution that streamlined quoting, automated document workflows, centralized file storage, and enabled field representatives to collect data and images from mobile devices.
Challenge
The client needed to modernize a sales and field operations process that relied heavily on manual quoting, disconnected document handling, and unstructured information collected by field representatives.
Solar projects required users to configure products, collect site information, capture images, create quotes, generate documents, and coordinate information between sales and field teams.
Several issues were limiting the process:
- Quoting was inconsistent and required manual work
- Product configuration lacked sufficient structure
- Field information was not collected through a standardized workflow
- Documents did not have a centralized storage process
- PDF generation was not automated
- Field representatives needed better mobile access
- Some work needed to remain possible in low-connectivity environments
The Salesforce environment therefore needed to support both office-based sales operations and mobile field activity.
Solution
Peeklogic implemented Salesforce CPQ and configured the surrounding Salesforce architecture to support the client’s solar sales process.
Products, bundles, pricing rules, validation rules, approvals, discounts, and quote templates were configured around the company’s solar system offerings.
The solution extended beyond CPQ. Peeklogic developed a custom Lightning Web Component for field representatives, integrated SharePoint for document storage, implemented PDF.co for automated document generation, and introduced Salesforce Mobile App functionality.
The Salesforce org was also redesigned with custom objects, multiple record types, inventory functionality, and a custom e-signature process.
Key Features
1. Salesforce CPQ Configuration
Peeklogic configured products and bundles around the client’s solar offerings and implemented the pricing and product rules required to create structured quotes.
The solution included:
- Product and bundle configuration
- Price rules
- Product rules
- Discount validation
- Approval workflows
- Quote templates
The CPQ Config Validation API was also used to execute configuration validation outside the standard Quote Line Editor where required.
2. Custom Mobile Form for Field Representatives
A custom Lightning Web Component was developed for collecting site information directly from the field.
Field representatives could enter structured data and capture images using Salesforce rather than relying on disconnected tools.
The component was made compatible with the Salesforce Mobile App so the same workflow remained available outside the office.
3. Image Capture and Preview
The custom field form included image handling as part of the site data collection process.
A Zoom viewer was integrated to allow users to preview captured images directly within the workflow, making visual site information easier to review.
4. SharePoint Document Storage
Peeklogic integrated Salesforce with SharePoint to provide centralized external document storage.
A one-way synchronization process transferred relevant files from Salesforce to SharePoint, helping organize project documentation without requiring Salesforce to act as the sole file repository.
5. Automated PDF Generation
PDF.co was integrated with Salesforce to generate PDF documents automatically.
The integration supported quotes and service-related outputs, replacing manual document preparation with a repeatable automated process.
6. Offline and Field Service Support
The project included a custom offline component designed for users working in locations with limited connectivity.
Light Salesforce Field Service configuration was also introduced to support future scheduling and task assignment requirements.
7. Custom Salesforce Process Architecture
The Salesforce org was configured around the client’s operational model rather than relying only on standard objects.
Peeklogic created a custom object hierarchy with multiple record types and implemented inventory management functionality.
A custom e-signature solution was also developed to simplify document approval and execution.
The Implementation Process
The project combined CPQ implementation with custom Salesforce development and third-party integrations.
Work progressed across several connected areas:
- Salesforce CPQ product and pricing configuration
- Approval and discount automation
- Custom mobile data collection
- Image capture and offline functionality
- SharePoint and PDF.co integrations
- Salesforce object and inventory architecture
- Document approval and e-signature workflows
- Testing, demonstrations, support, and post-implementation enhancements
Peeklogic also held regular client-facing meetings and demos to clarify CPQ behavior and ensure the implementation reflected the client’s operational requirements.
Results & Benefits
The implementation connected previously separate parts of the solar sales and field workflow inside Salesforce.
Key outcomes included:
- A structured Salesforce CPQ quoting process
- Automated product, pricing, and approval logic
- Mobile-first field data collection
- Image capture and preview inside Salesforce workflows
- Support for low-connectivity field environments
- Centralized document storage in SharePoint
- Automated PDF generation
- Improved inventory and operational data structure
- Better alignment between sales and field teams
Post-implementation work also included updates to automation rules, commission logic, permissions, and other business logic as requirements evolved.
Business Value
Solar sales processes frequently extend beyond CRM activity. Representatives may need to configure systems, collect physical site information, capture images, prepare documentation, obtain approvals, and coordinate work with field teams.
By connecting these activities through Salesforce, the client gained a more consistent process from initial quote through field execution.
Sales teams could work with structured CPQ data, while field representatives received mobile tools designed around the information they needed to collect on-site.
At the same time, SharePoint and PDF.co remained responsible for specialized document functions instead of forcing every process into Salesforce.
Conclusion
Peeklogic delivered an end-to-end Salesforce solution that combined CPQ, automation, custom development, mobile workflows, and external document services.
The implementation helped the solar energy provider streamline quote-to-cash activities, improve field data collection, automate document generation, and create a stronger connection between sales and field operations.
The resulting Salesforce architecture provides a scalable foundation for continued growth in solar installations, field activity, and operational automation.
