Auth to Jira from Salesforce Named Credentials

There are 2 types of Named Credentials: Named Principal and Per User.

Common between them is:

  • Jira Connector uses the username and API token from Jira.

Difference between them is:

  • Named Principal uses only one API user for all users to access the server
  • Per User uses individual user level. For Named Credentials Per User is required to share it for Profiles and  Create Authentication Settings for External Systems for each user which uses Peeklogic Jira Connector where Jira username and Jira API token are used.

Named Principal

Navigate to Setup / type in search Named Credentials / click New(or click on Arrow and New Legacy) to create Named Credential to Authorize to Jira from Salesforce. Click Save

IMPORTANT:

If you are using Jira Cloud:

Generate API token on Jira site using this link, and use the generated API token instead of password when creating Named Credentials. So the password field on the screenshot below should actually contain the API token, but not a password to Jira.

If you are using Jira Server:

Just enter Jira user username and Jira user password. In this case, you would not need to generate a token.

3) Each Salesforce user, after his profile is assigned permissions to Named Credentials, would need to generate a Jira token for him self,  and then go to personal settings and Create Authentication Settings for External Systems, pasting his Jira Username and Jira Token into Password field:
